Brussels – Munich
With the ÖBB Nightjet
Travel route
The Brussels–Munich night train forms part of the Brussels–Vienna Nightjet service (NJ 469). It offers a direct overnight connection from Belgium to Munich, Germany’s third-largest city.
In Belgium, you can board the train at Brussels-Midi, Brussels-North and Liège-Guillemins. From there, the train continues through Germany and arrives in Munich early the following morning. In most cases, the night train calls at München Ost station. It then continues into Austria, with Vienna as its final destination.
The direct service is operated by the Austrian railway company ÖBB under its Nightjet brand and currently runs three times a week from Belgium. Passengers can choose between seats, couchettes and sleeper compartments.

Compartment
Seats
Seats are the cheapest option. You spend the night sitting in a seat. There are six seats in each compartment. You can share the compartment with others or book it as a private compartment. Washing and toilet facilities are located in the corridor.
Couchettes
The couchettes offer more comfort and are a popular choice for groups and families. In this type of compartment, you sit in a seat during the day. At night, you can convert the seats into a berth. ÖBB provides a pillow, blanket and sheet for each passenger.
They can be booked as 6-person compartment, 4-person compartment or private compartment. Men and women travel mixed, except in the women-only compartment. A small breakfast (hot drink, 1 bread roll, butter, jam) and a mineral water are included. Washing and toilet facilities are located in the hallway.
Sleeper
The standard sleeper compartment offers even more comfort. During the day, the coupe has a maximum of 3 seats. In the evening you can unfold the beds, equipped with a thin mattress including blanket, sheet and pillow. A la carte breakfast, a welcome drink, towels and a set of toiletries are also included. There is also a sink in the compartment where you can freshen up. The restrooms are located in the hallway.
The deluxe sleeper compartment has all the amenities of the standard sleeper compartment but offers a nice extra. The deluxe compartment has a private bathroom with a sink, shower and toilet.
Private versus shared compartments
Seat, couchette and sleeper compartments can be booked privately, subject to availability. When you book a private compartment, you will not share it with passengers outside your travel party.
You can also book individual tickets in a shared compartment. This usually costs less, but offers less privacy. Shared seat compartments are mixed-gender, while shared couchette and sleeper compartments can generally be booked as either mixed-gender or women-only.
