Amsterdam – Milan
With European Sleeper
Travel route
At the moment, there is no direct night train connection between Amsterdam and Milan. Unfortunately! However, there is a good alternative that allows you to travel towards Milan with just one transfer.
In September 2026, European Sleeper will launch its night train to Milan. However, this train will depart from Brussels and travel via Liège and Cologne towards Switzerland and Italy. The following morning, the night train will stop in cities including Zurich, Como and Milan.
In December 2026, this service will be further extended to Breda and Eindhoven, allowing passengers to travel directly from the Netherlands to Milan by night train. In the meantime, it will already be possible to travel via Belgium or Cologne.
New stops from 14 December: Antwerp, Breda, Eindhoven
From mid-December 2026, the night train between Brussels and Milan will follow a revised route. In Switzerland, the stop in Zurich will be replaced by Aarau, around 30 minutes from Zurich. The route will also be extended with stops in Antwerp, Breda and Eindhoven. This creates a direct connection between Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Italy - all with one night train!
From Breda and Eindhoven, you can easily transfer to domestic Intercity trains, which connect Amsterdam to these stations in approximately 60 to 80 minutes. Tickets for domestic trains are best purchased directly through the website of the Dutch railway operator, NS.
Thanks to the new route, it will become even easier for travellers who want to take the night train from Italy to the Netherlands, or the other way around.

Classic (Couchettes)
Couchettes offer a comfortable and practical way to travel overnight. During the day, the compartment is arranged with seating. In the evening, the benches are converted into individual sleeping berths. European Sleeper provides a pillow, fitted sheet and blanket for each passenger. Each compartment accommodates up to five people. Men and women share compartments, except in the women-only option. It is also possible to book a private compartment.
Comfort Standard
Comfort Standard compartments feature a three-person bench seat, a small window table and a large folding table. At night, the seating converts into sleeping berths, with a maximum of three beds per compartment. Each bed includes a comfortable mattress, sheet, pillow and duvet. The beds are compact in size (60 cm x 175–185 cm). Compartments are shared by men and women, except in the women-only option. You can also book the compartment for private use for one, two or three travellers.
Comfort Plus (Sleeper)
The most comfortable option on board. During the day, the cabin offers seating for up to three passengers. In the evening, the beds are folded down and made up with a comfortable mattress, duvet, pillow and sheets. The compartment also includes a private washbasin. A towel and toiletries are provided. Breakfast, mineral water and a complimentary welcome drink are included in the fare. Compartments are shared by men and women, except in the women-only option. Private use is also available.
