Amsterdam – Vienna

With the ÖBB Nightjet

Travel route

This night train from Amsterdam to Vienna takes you directly to the beautiful capital of Austria. In the Netherlands, you can board in Amsterdam, Amersfoort or Deventer. The train then makes its way through Germany, crossing the border into Austria the next morning. The train's terminus is Vienna, but you can get off before then in several other Austrian cities such as Wels, Linz and St. Pölten. You travel with the Nightjet, these are the night trains of the Austrian railway operator ÖBB.

Target prices

Seat from € 39.90 per person
Couchette from € 99.90 per person
Sleeper from € 149.90 per person

The listed guide prices are purely indicative and refer to a one-way trip from Amsterdam. Prices are always subject to availability and subject to specific conditions.

Compartment

On this night train there are four types of accommodations to choose from.

The cheapest option are the seats. The seats are not in a separate compartment but rather in a large, open car, like on a regular train. Each seat has armrests, a headrest and a reading light. Seats are configured in groups of 4 with a table in the middle. There is ample storage space for suitcases and other items, such as strollers, skis and snowboards.

The couchettes offer more comfort and are a popular choice for groups and families. A couchette cabin is suitable for a maximum of 4 people. ÖBB provides a pillow, sheet and blanket for each passenger. It features amenities such as an extendable table, free Wi-Fi, adjustable lighting and various charging options (inductive charging and socket). You can close the compartment with a card (similar to a hotel room). There is plenty of storage space for luggage under the beds.

Men and women travel mixed, except in the women-only compartment. A small breakfast (hot drink, 1 sandwich, butter, jam) and a mineral water are included. Toilets and washing facilities are located in the corridor.

The mini cabin is designed for passengers traveling alone and is similar to a sleeping pod. It has a movable folding table, a mirror, clothes hangers, a reading lamp, a power socket and storage space. Adjecent to the cabin there are lockers available for your hand luggage (max. 40 x 55 x 23 cm) and shoes (max. 18 x 57 x 15 cm). Toilets and washing facilities are located in the corridor.

A sleeper cabin offer even more comfort. It has two built-in beds and also features a modern design with comfortable seats, a retractable table, door lock with an NFC card, adjustable ambient lighting, a modern control display with various convenience functions and several charging options (inductive charging and power socket). There are two categories of sleeper cabins. The comfort sleeping car has a private toilet with a washbasin and a built-in shower hose. The comfort plus sleeping car has a private bathroom, with a toilet, a washbasin and a separate shower cabin.

Interrail and Eurail

You can also use a valid Eurail or Interrail Global Pass for the ÖBB Nightjet, such as this night train from Amsterdam to Vienna. You do pay a surcharge to reserve your seat. This surcharge includes breakfast (when booking a couchette or sleeper) and always includes seat reservation. This guarantees your spot in a seat / couchette / sleeper for the booked train.

Interrail is an all-in-one Pass that allows you to explore 33 countries by train. Travel on as many trains as you want by simply showing your Interrail Pass on your phone. Anyone living in Europe can travel with Interrail. Persons under 27 and those over 60 also enjoy discounts on their Pass. Please note that some (night) trains require a reservation and/or supplement in advance if you are traveling with an Interrail Pass.

The Eurail Pass is a similar pass to Interrail, but it can only be ordered and used by people living outside of Europe.

The menu in your compartment contains a selection of beverages and snacks which can be ordered with the train staff (surcharge applies - not included in the ticket price). Breakfast and a drink will be included in the ticket price if you've booked a couchette or a sleeper.
