Latour-de-Carol – Enveitg
Latour-de-Carol is a small village in the French Pyrenees, right on the border with Spain. It is a good base for travellers who want to explore the Pyrenees, but Latour-de-Carol is also often used by travellers who travel by train to or from Spain.
The train station
Latour-de-Carol shares a train station with the neighbouring municipality of Enveitg. What is special about this train station is that three railway lines with different track widths meet.
- The standard gauge line that is used by night trains from Paris
- The Iberian gauge line to Barcelona
- The metre gauge line to Villefranche (used by 'the Yellow Train')
The Yellow Train
This famous train, Le Petit Train Jaune in French, runs between the stations of Latour-de-Carol - Enveitg and Villefranche-de-Conflent, a total distance of 63 kilometres. During the journey, you can enjoy beautiful views as the train crosses the eastern Pyrenees at a leisurely pace of 30 kilometres per hour. Along the way, the train bridges a height difference of no less than 1200 metres and stops at 22 stations, including the highest railway station in France (Bolquère, situated at an altitude of 1593 metres). During the summer months, there is also an open carriage without a roof, where you have an even better view of the beautiful surroundings.
Travel to Latour-de-Carol - Enveitg by night train
There are direct night trains between Latour-de-Carol and Paris. During the summer holidays, the night train runs daily. Outside the summer holidays, the night train runs on Fridays and Saturdays from Paris and on Saturdays and Sundays towards Paris.
